Caithness Chamber raises £1100 for Cash for Kids
Published 07 Aug 2015Caithness Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that it has raised over £1100 for MFR Cash for Kids’ Bed Appeal.
On Wednesday 29th July, the Chamber staff and Board (along with a few helpers), set up exercise bikes in their offices at Naver House with the aim of cycling the distance from Inverness to Thurso.
After smashing their initial target, covering the distance in just under two hours, the team decided there was nothing for it but to turn around and cycle back – this time taking the scenic route via John O’Groats.
In all, over the course of the day, the Chamber team covered a total distance of just over 260 miles, raising £1100 for charity in the process.
The team’s fundraising efforts were given a major boost when Natural Retreats generously contributed a voucher for a three night stay in one of three of their fantastic resorts – John O’Groats, Trewhiddle, or Yorkshire Dales – for use in a prize draw for those who donated £10 or more. The winner was drawn on Friday 31st July and announced as Anne Macdonald.
Trudy Morris, chief executive of Caithness Chamber of Commerce, said: “I’m so proud of the effort the team put into raising money for this wonderful cause. The Chamber staff put a lot of hard work not just into cycling so many miles but into organising and fundraising as well. The support we received from the Board was also invaluable.
Our thanks go as well to everyone who donated so generously – we far exceeded our initial target and it’s great to see people in Caithness rallying around this worthwhile cause.”
Lyndsay Rose, Charity Manager at MFR, said: “This is an amazing result and I can’t thank the Chamber enough. We’re completely overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Caithness. This is a huge boost to our funds and will ensure that eleven children in need in Caithness will have proper, comfy and warm beds to sleep in.”
Ewan Kearney, Chief Operating Officer at Natural Retreats, said: “As a company that was founded on nurturing wonderful childhood memories, we were proud to support the Cash for Kids Bed Appeal to ensure that no child has to sleep in unsafe or unsuitable conditions. With our strong connection to Caithness and the North Highlands, we’re always looking to support local businesses and charities and are delighted we could contribute a stay at our Retreats to this worthwhile cause. A big congratulations to all of the Chamber Staff that completed the challenge!”
