From the desert to the Highlands
Published 06 Jun 2016Mackays Hotel in Wick has appointed a new head chef to join its Rosette winning restaurant team.
Jason Wood, formerly Executive Sous Chef at NYU in Abu Dhabi has relocated to the Scottish Highlands bringing with him a wealth of experience gained during his 30-year career.
His career started in the RAF and after 23 years serving his country, he joined renowned chef Raymond Blanc’s cookery school ‘Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons’ in Oxford as a chef tutor. From there he went to work in New York and then to Abu Dhabi.
Jason Wood said: “I’m delighted to be joining the team here at Mackays Hotel and am looking forward to bringing some new fresh ideas and influences to the menu, developing the team and introducing them to new techniques and ingredients.”
Mackays Hotel features a fine dining restaurant in addition to its popular No1 Bistro, located on the shortest street in the World as recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Murray Lamont, Owner of Mackays Hotel said: “Jason is a very welcome asset to our team, brining with him his vast experience which has been gained working all over the world. He will be injecting an international slant to our menus and his previous experience as a tutor will help us to develop the younger members of our team which is incredibly important to us.”
