North Highland College UHI launch work placement scheme for new semester

This semester, students from North Highland College UHI will be organising and participating in work experience placements, gaining invaluable experience in their chosen field.

The three HNC courses running the scheme this year are Business, Accounts, and the new Events Management programme.

It is a mandatory requirement of all three courses that each student plans and arranges a work experience placement for 10 working days. The aim of the placement is to provide the student with practical experience in a workplace which will help them work towards achieving their personal objectives and complete their qualification.

There will be no formalised classed for students from Monday 7th November to enable students to attend 5 working days of their work experience placement, and students are asked to negotiate an additional 5 working days with their work placement provider at a mutually convenient. Fridays are recommended, as there are not scheduled classes for student son that day.

The full 10 working days of work experience must be completed before Christmas in order to allow the students to meet the deadline for their coursework.

If you are interested in taking on a student as part of the placement scheme, you would be required to commit to providing 10 days’ work experience which is likely to include periods of job shadowing or a specific project the student would be responsible for completing.

Suitable project topics might include:

A study of career paths available in the organisation and the training/qualifications required for these
A study of processes and products in the organisation
An investigation into a particular job role (likely to be via job shadowing) or another relevant topic

At the end of the placement, you would also be required to complete a report on the student and submit this to the College.
