The Crown Estate is preparing to announce the list of companies which will be the first to develop marine energy ventures off the north coast of Scotland.
The quango is to award the leases of the seabed in the easterly stretches of the Pentland Firth and in the waters off Orkney.
The successful bidders to comprise the first batch of wave and tidal developers will be named in simultaneous announcements on March 16th in Wick and Kirkwall.
The first devices are expected to go into the water next year in a £2-3billion investment designed to produce 700mW of power by 2020.
