John O’Groats listed among Scotland’s ‘Coolest Destinations’ following substantial investment
Published 08 Apr 2016Natural Retreats John O’Groats were delighted to have been listed as one of Scotland’s Coolest Destinations in a recent poll by global travel website Coolstays.
Once nominated in the Carbuncle Awards, Coolstays now encourage guests to explore the “unspoilt and tiny hamlet” of John O’Groats and hails “the alluring wilderness of Scotland’s most northern retreat” as an unforgettable experience. The accolade awarded by Coolstays has further been promoted in the Scotsman newspaper, with an article detailing the remarkable turnaround of this area.
The former John O’Groats Hotel was originally built in 1875 and was carefully restored over two years, adding a new Norse style extension which adds a dramatic splash of colour against the coastal landscape. The addition of 19 lodge style residences, all carefully positioned to maximise the views, complete the stunning accommodation in this spectacular location.
The opening of the Inn at John O’Groats is part of Natural Retreats important £6million regeneration project in the area along with partners Heritage GB as well as Highlands and Island Enterprise. Natural Retreats’ current campaign to attract visitors to John O’Groats focuses on promoting this spectacular coastal location for its ultimate surf adventures, unique wildlife and as an iconic stopover on the North Coast 500 route.
