ILM Highland is an independent social enterprise with charitable status. It was set up in 1994 to help people into sustainable employment: the ‘Intermediate Labour Market’, which is where the initials for our company name ‘ILM’ originate.
The company has evolved over the past 22 years. ILM now delivers housing related services for older people and those with a disability through our Handyperson and Care and Repair services.
In addition, ILM delivers a Waste Electrical Recycling and Reuse service for the Highland area, collecting and recycling some 2,400 tonnes of WEEE annually. Our shop sells a wide selection of new and reconditioned electrical appliances, including washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, fridges and freezers. Goods can be bought and taken away on the same day; we also offer a home delivery service and recycling of your old machine.
More recently, ILM has set up and established a Small Works service carrying out small maintenance jobs, including insulation, for organisations, businesses and the wider public.
Over the years, ILM has successfully forged strong partnerships and links across the North of Scotland. These have included local authorities, the HIE network, housing associations, and increasingly the business sector.
Success has been achieved through an approach based on partnership working. By winning contracts and service level agreements as well as building up other income streams, the company has been able to deliver a range of services that have provided real benefit to the Highlands of Scotland.
We strive to be a self-sustaining social enterprise. Over the years, ILM has therefore moved away from a grant-funding regime, preferring to focus on earned income and delivering services through contracting. By doing this, ILM can meet its corporate objectives in a sustainable way.
